What Should We do?
What is a Host Family Supposed to do?
1)Before a student comes to your house, we hold an information session for you. In the session, we provide you with the detailed schedule of the student from the time he or she arrives at your house until the time you say goodbye to him or her. Also, you and other host families meet one another in the session.
*Before the date the student arrives at your house, we provide you with the detailed personal information of the student in writing.
2)On the first day you meet the student, we hold a welcome party for you at our SIFA office and introduce the student to you as his or her host family at the party. Then, you take him or her to your house.
3)The student stays with you in your house for two weeks. We set up short trips in Shinagawa Ward for the students living with their host families. Also, we set up short trips by bus to neighboring prefectures for them. (We plan to hold five joint activities for them during their stay in Japan.) On the day the student living with you participates in a joint activity, you need to take him or her to the designated place (the place is usually Shinagawa Ward Office 2nd Parking Lot) in the morning and need to pick him or her up at the designated place in the evening. (You are free to choose the way you take the student to the place and to pick him or her up. You may take the student to the designated place by using your car.)
4)Except for the days that the student in your house participates in joint activities, he or she spends his or her time with you as his or her host family. (If you want to go out with the student, you will need to spend all the travel and food expenses necessary.)
*You may be able to ask other host families or other students staying with other host families to go out together.
5)In the evening of the last day before the student leaves your house for his or her country, we hold a "farewell party" for you and the student at our SIFA office. Please feel free to talk to other students who have been staying with other host families at the party.
6)On the day the student leaves your house for his or her country, please take him or her to "Shinagawa Ward 2nd Parking Lot" at the designated time. Then, you see the student off from there after saying "goodbye" to him or her.
7)After the students left for their countries, we set up an informal gathering for the host families to find out your honest thoughts on the student who stayed in your house.
